Meet Becky Daughtry, MSW, LICSW
Counseling and Psychotherapy
My focus is on working with people from all kinds of experiences with adoption to help them navigate whatever challenges they face with the clarity and resilience they need to flourish.
As a result of the adoptive experience, many adoptees report struggles to develop a cohesive sense of themselves. This can manifest as anxiety and depression, but also in unproductive habits like binge eating, substance use, perfectionism, and workaholism and relationship /attachment patterns.
Adoptees often report always feeling like something is wrong with them and are reluctant to speak up due to feelings of loyalty and that makes it very anxiety provoking to express long buried thoughts, feelings, and questions. This can be a very isolating experience, leaving a person feeling disconnected from themselves and others, feeling stressed, overwhelmed and even estranged from others.
Do you want to feel a connection with others but find the connection triggering?
Do you experience an anxious internal world wondering what is wrong with you?
Did you find out information that really rocked your world about what you know and understand?
Do you feel like a veil has lifted and you see the world differently?
Are wondering how to make sense of this when your present reality really hasn’t changed?
Were you kept a secret?
Are you negotiating reunion alone?
Have you experienced previous attempts with psychotherapy that have not been quite the right fit?
Adoption is lifelong.
Adoption competent therapy is provided by someone who has specialized training and expertise to understand the complexities and the impact of adoption across the lifespan. I’m a therapist who specializes in creating a safe space to honor all the parts of yourself and lean into unexpressed thoughts and feelings about your experience that may not align with the dominant narrative. Therapy provides education, validation, and support to know who you are and set boundaries that serve you. Therapy includes creative innovations that draw upon relevant clinical models to formulate a personalized, customized approach.
Specializing in…
How I work
I draw from a range of approaches to meet your needs, always grounded in an adoption-competent, trauma-informed perspective.
01
Relational and Narrative Therapy
We will explore how early relationships shaped the way you see yourself, and we will work to rewrite the parts of your story that have been distorted by shame or silence.
02
Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)
Together, we will build practical tools to reduce anxiety and overwhelm, while still making space for emotional depth and reflection.
03
Motivational Interviewing and Compassionate Inquiry
Instead of pushing for change, we will explore what you are ready for, what matters to you, and how to move forward without abandoning yourself.
My core values
You are the expert on your story
I am not here to define your experience. I am here to help you explore it in a way that feels safe, honest, and grounded in your truth.
Safety is built, not assumed
I will always work to earn your trust, not expect it.
Healing is not about erasing the past
It is about understanding what shaped you and creating space for who you are becoming.
Grief and gratitude can coexist
You do not have to choose one or the other. There is room for complexity here.
Therapy should feel like a conversation, not an interrogation
We will move at your pace, guided by curiosity, care, and collaboration.
There is nothing wrong with you
Your coping strategies were survival tools. Together, we can explore what still serves you and what you are ready to let go of.
